Welcome to Bug Bug!

I’m Lorilin, a stay-at-home mom in Chicago who reads books to stay sane. Even though I spend most of my day looking after my lovely and wild children, I always make time to read—mostly fiction, wellness, cookbooks, and lots of books on gardening.

Some of my favorite hardbacks finally found a home. Well, at least for now. Anyone else rearrange their bookshelves...like...constantly...? 😬 Somehow displaying my books “just right” is always a work in progress. I do like to keep a neat space, but I also think the act of picking up the books, remembering the stories and why I loved them, is just so comforting. You know when you start a super popular book and you think to yourself, this thing CAN’T POSSIBLY live up to all the hype? Well, that’s what I was thinking when I started reading #thewaterdancer but I ended up falling IN LOVE with this book. . . The writing is beautiful, the characters are so well developed, but the story itself—the meticulous and magical development of time and place—blew me away. I was right there, with those enslaved mothers who were sold and separated from their sons, with the brothers and sisters murdered at a whim of their masters. It broke my heart, but, incredibly, it was still an uplifting story! I finished the book and felt hopeful that good can eventually win. Even when the world is so bleak, you have to keep on fighting. . . I gave this one ALL the stars. Has anyone else read it?
