ONLY WHEN IT’S US
March 27, 2020
As a star soccer player at UCLA with a crazy training schedule, Willa is struggling to pass one of her business classes. After asking her professor for help, Willa is finally directed to ask a fellow classmate, Ryder, for notes. But Ryder completely ignores Willa, and she assumes he’s a total jerk. What she doesn’t realize is he’s deaf—and stand-off-ish because, well, he’s been through some things… Their relationship gets off to a rocky start, but soon they can’t deny that there’s some serious chemistry brewing between them, especially after they’re assigned as partners for their next class project. The only question is whether they can move past their petty grievances and learn to actually communicate with and listen to each other.
Holy smokes! What a book. If you loved The Simple Wild and The Bromance Book Club, this needs to be your next read. It’s got a touch more steam in all the best ways, and the two main characters are to die for. (I heart Jonah forever, but Ryder may be my new favorite book boyfriend, just saying.) What I love most, though, is how well-developed the backstories are for both Willa and Ryder. This is a classic frenemies-to-lovers story, but it has layers, my friends. I haven’t heard a lot of hype about this one, but do yourself a favor and read it immediately. You won’t be disappointed.
