Well, hello there! Just wrapping up another dreary month in Chicago. I really hope we finally get some sunshine now that it’s MAY. Please, universe. Please?
April was kinda humdrum for me. Not a lot going on, technically, but still a lot of big emotions happening in our house. But that’s a story for another time.
Mostly, I am SO PROUD of myself for finally having the courage to reach out to one of my favorite publishers, St. Martin’s Press, to request some phsyical ARCs. I’ve never done it before, but I see a lot of people on Instagram getting “book mail,” and I thought I’d give it a shot. I had a contact tucked away in my email—after reviewing (many of) their books through Net Galley—and wouldn’t you know, despite all my anxiety, this person was so friendly and open to my request that she sent a fat stack of books right over.
Yes, I’ve worked hard to make my “reviewer profile” strong over the years (future post on that coming soon)—but I’m the first to acknowledge that I’m not exactly the Kim Kardashian of book reviewers on Instagram or NYT Book Reviews-bound, you know what I mean? So this feels like a big win for me. It makes me feel, like, legit. And now that I’ve popped my ARC-requesting-cherry, you better believe I’ll be reaching out to other publishers, too. Soooooo….
Anyhoo, I read some good stuff this month. Like, really good. In fact, I don’t know that I’ve ever had so many 5-ladybug reads in one month. From a tearjerker story about WWII to a how-to guide for completing your stress cycle to the ever entertaining “wisdom” of Stassi Schroeder, it was just a super stellar group of books this time around. As always, click on the title below the cover to see my full review.
I’m sending all the love to my fellow book nerds! I hope everyone has a peaceful May. ❤
